Univeral Basic Income… Problem Solver? Or Problem Creator?

March 13, 2022

First off... Make sure you listen to the end of the episode for a VERY exciting, special announcement! Hint... check the link at the bottom of the show notes... ;)

Now, down to business: This episode is about universal basic income. We talk through Canadian Bill C-223, which has been through its first reading in Canadian parliament. We talk through its stated intentions, the implications... and the problems we see with it.

We also go through the World Economic Forum's thoughts on the topic- talking through the objectives of that organization is always interesting...

Now the Stupidest of us Know…

Now the Stupidest of us Know…

March 6, 2022

OK, we admit, that's a bit of a provocative title. But... those are words from the lips of C.S. Lewis, so I'm sure you can forgive us.

In this episode, we dissect his essay, "On Living in an Atomic Age," and his sermon, "Learning in War-Time."

Both of these writings are filled with so much wisdom that we can apply to our lives during this tumultuous time. The words of C.S. Lewis in these works reminds us that the days we're living in aren't as novel as we'd believe and that no matter the circumstance, our objective and purpose in living doesn't change.

But will we be faithful to the call? Or distracted?

We hope you enjoy the nuggets of wisdom Lewis presents as much as we did!

When it Hits Close to Home…

When it Hits Close to Home…

February 27, 2022

Today we're talking with Rita's cousin-in-law, Lauren. Lauren recently lost her dad due to complications from Covid. We listen in and ask questions as she bravely shares their family's experience and the challenges they faced getting the care her dad required. Rita acted as an advocate for the family and explains what that was like as well.

Thank you, Lauren, for sharing.

Do Justice. Correct Oppression.

Do Justice. Correct Oppression.

February 14, 2022

A frequent conversation in our circles over the past while has been regarding what our role is in the pursuit of justice.

Justice, in simple terms, is putting things right. Clearly, as humans, we will never get it all right. But while we wait for the perfect justice that IS coming from our Lord, we can and should do our best to actively move against injustice that we see inflicted upon our fellow image-bearers.

We discuss the role of Christians throughout history in the fight against injustice, and while times and situations change, God never does. His call to us is the same today as always: learn to do good; seek justice; correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless; plead the widow's cause; love kindness, walk humbly with your God.

The Business of Awareness

The Business of Awareness

February 6, 2022

We live in a world that's all about awareness. It seems we're told that if only we could learn more about the plight of every person, disease, race, orientation, or catastrophe, the world would be a better place. But does knowledge alone fix anything? The goal for awareness should be to move people towards true action. But what does action beyond awareness look like? We also caution that when awareness is done really wrong, it simply leads to harm and division.

This conversation is, ironically, about raising "awareness" about the possible pitfalls of awareness done wrong. Our hope is to also lay some groundwork for going beyond just "awareness" to true action about the things you are passionate about.

The Voices of Those Who Stood When Mandates Sought to Make Them Kneel

The Voices of Those Who Stood When Mandates Sought to Make Them Kneel

January 30, 2022

Today we talk with 3 different people, who have 3 different stories of how their lives were affected by mandates in health care.

Each story is unique as each person had a different outcome, however, the "Why" behind their decision to stand is the same.

The consequences of mandates have been covered before, however, this is such an important issue to continue to shine a light on.

We hope that these stories of faith and courage are an encouragement to you.

Awareness, Assessment, Application, Action.

Awareness, Assessment, Application, Action.

January 23, 2022

This is the first episode that Rita and Cecily sat down to record together in 2022. Because of that, we talk about why we started the podcast, and what our goals for the podcast are this year. Our goals have nothing to do with metrics, and everything to do with values, faithfulness, our approach to life and our prayer for our listeners.

This Interview with Tommy John is a must-listen. There is so much to learn from his anything-but-mainstream way of thinking about the miraculous nature of the body and healing.

Tommy gives us the details on burning his degrees, insight into what he means by “you heal you”, a run through the “8 essentials” and just some really good thought provoking conversation.

Early Treatment: Prepared, Proactive

Early Treatment: Prepared, Proactive

January 9, 2022

A discussion of how my (Rita’s) family handled COVID. I run down what we did, but most importantly the thought process behind it. So many people want to know what they can do at home at onset of symptoms and the healthcare system is not obliging.

This episode is not medical advice. It is simply information, a story of personal decisions we made in our care, what we did and why. Each individual is responsible for the decisions they make and care they do or do not seek out.

Plan ahead, be prepared.
